what does a stanze mean in the AM part 2

“Down dropt the breeze, the sails dropt down,

‘Twas sad as sad can be ;

And we did speak only to break

The silence of the sea!”

The reason I choose this stanza is because it shows how they want to speak while there is silence around. It also shows that they are sad but don’t want to show it. The reason they feel sad is because they are trapped at sea with no way out and the mariner believed that he couldn’t get to land alive and safe.

  1. Hello,

    You have shown that you can select quotations and you have begun to explain them.

    Can I suggest that you avoid using pronouns and either refer to the character, the speaker or the poet. I think it would be a good idea to aim to write 3-4 sentences per summary. You should focus on: significant events, significant feelings sound devices and figurative language.

    Thanks,

    Mr North
